Remembering What Really Matters

Last week was eventful to say the least. An earthquake on Tuesday was followed by a hurricane Saturday. Luckily neither of these events was more than a slight inconvenience for me or my family, but these events really reminded me how quickly your life can be turned upside down. While my heart goes out to those who sustained more damage, I thank God that we were unscathed.

This was a wake-up call. One of the things I really need to work on is living in the moment and not for the future. This is a shift for me, because for most of the last two years, I have been living for the weekends I would get to see my husband and/or friends. Then those weekends would go by, often too quickly, and I would again be waiting. Since I moved and my husband and I are living in the same place, I am often caught up in all the things we should be doing that I forget to enjoy the moments we have together.

There are several goals my husband and I would like to achieve in the next few years and sometimes I get too focused on getting achieving a goal that I forget how rewarding the steps to get there can be. One of the things I want to work on over the next few years is to be better about enjoying where I am and not so focused on where I would like to be.
