We Need a Vacation

My husband and I spent a lot of time in airports and cars over the past couple years, but we have not really taken a vacation since our honeymoon almost 3 years ago. We need a chance to relax, explore and recharge our batteries. Unfortunately, it is not likely it will happen until early next summer. As I mentioned, I am starting a new job and will not really have any vacation time for a while and it is really hard for us to get away during the school year.

This will probably be the last time we get to take a big trip for a few years, so we are taking the following steps to make sure the trip is something to remember.

  • Choosing a destination early – we are not normally good about this, but I think this time we are about 95% sure we know where we will be going. I’ll post more about that once we commit.
  • Saving for the trip early – we have actually been saving for this trip on and off since spring of this year. It is something that we knew we really wanted to do.
  • Researching the area – since the location is somewhere neither of us has been before, we want to make sure we take advantage.
  • Looking for deals – this is all really part of research, but by keeping an eye out, we hope to find some good deals on this trip.

When I really think about it, with all the travel my husband and I have done together, we have taken very few actual vacations. That is something I would like to change going forward.

Remembering What Really Matters

Last week was eventful to say the least. An earthquake on Tuesday was followed by a hurricane Saturday. Luckily neither of these events was more than a slight inconvenience for me or my family, but these events really reminded me how quickly your life can be turned upside down. While my heart goes out to those who sustained more damage, I thank God that we were unscathed.

This was a wake-up call. One of the things I really need to work on is living in the moment and not for the future. This is a shift for me, because for most of the last two years, I have been living for the weekends I would get to see my husband and/or friends. Then those weekends would go by, often too quickly, and I would again be waiting. Since I moved and my husband and I are living in the same place, I am often caught up in all the things we should be doing that I forget to enjoy the moments we have together.

There are several goals my husband and I would like to achieve in the next few years and sometimes I get too focused on getting achieving a goal that I forget how rewarding the steps to get there can be. One of the things I want to work on over the next few years is to be better about enjoying where I am and not so focused on where I would like to be.

Giveaway at One of My Favorite Blogs

I honor of her birthday Amber at Blonde and Balanced is giving away a $50 gift card to Novica.com. This is an organization with a great mission and some wonderful items.

Amber’s blog is one of them that inspired me to get off my butt and finally get blogging. I wish I would have had my life as together as she does when I was her age.
